This month we learned of several more students needing scholarship support. As the students we support graduate, they are finding it hard to gain entrance to college/university. It's not their grades that's the issue, or their passion to learn. Instead, it's economics - their families can't afford it.

An example of this is Supaporn (pictured to the left). A few months from now she will graduate from high school. She's an excellent student, and she's keen to learn. Her goal is to master English and work as a translator.

University is expensive. The Thai government does provide financial aid, but for families such as Supaporn's it's just not enough. Her government support will provide for the tuition and most of the room and board expenses. Normally this is enough as the family often provides the rest. However, since the tsunami her parents have gone from making about 30,000 baht per month to about 10,000 baht. The economy of the area has not recovered.

At After The Wave we provide scholarship support for students such as Supaporn, but we need donations from people like you to make this happen. With your support Supaporn and others like her will be able to attend university, and eventuially gain employment and be able to give back to their communities in meaningful ways.
