Foundation
Status:
After The Wave has been granted foundation
status by the government of Thailand. This is an important step in
our growth and will enable us to do many things. For exampe, we
can now issue tax receipts for donations and sponsorships made in
Thailand, though we still be able to offer tax receipts inthe USA
through our partner organization, GDN. We will also be able to advertise
and promote the organization on a wider scale, and to open offical
bank accounts with online transactions for donations.
Exchange Visit:
On January 23-24 we took 15 students from
the International School Bangkok to Khao Lak to meet with some of
the After The Wave students. The students spent the day with games
and activities, and afterwards we visited Bang Sak beach (near the
school). In the photo to the left you can see 3 of the ISB students
playing in the water with 3 students from the R35 school. This is
one way that we work to enrichen lives and build connections.
Scholarships:
We've been very fortunate to be able to find
people to sponsor the children at the R35 school. At our latest
management meeting, however, we discussed again the need for funds
to provide scholarships. Many of the students we support would like
to continue on to university or college, however for many this is
not possible. Scholarships are expensive (3-5000 baht per month)
as compared to the sponsorships, so we're trying to find ways to
come up with the funds. One idea is a benefit concert to support
ATW.
